Food safety: UVAS postgraduate diploma accredited by UK institute

The training aims to produce professionals for the development of food safety in the country.

The Royal Environmental and Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) has granted accreditation to the Postgraduate Diploma in Food Safety and Controls of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore.


A European Union delegation presented the accreditation certificate to UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Naseer Pasha and department head Dr Muhammad Nasir at a ceremony at a local hotel on Wednesday.

The UVAS offers this diploma with the support of the EU-funded Trade Related Technical Assistance (TRTA-II) Programme and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido). The training given under the diploma aims to produce professionals for the development, implementation and auditing of food safety in the country.

The EU delegates  Bruno Valanzuolo, Riccardo Rossi and Roshan Ara   handed out certificates to the participants of a pedagogical training course for the diploma instructors.

Prof Pasha thanked the EU and Unido for supporting training programmes at the UVAS. He said the food safety diploma course would help develop Pakistan’s capacity to meet global food safety and quality requirements and enhance the competitiveness of its food products.
