Higher Education: HEC to set up 3 new regional offices

The HEC will establish sub-offices in northern Sindh, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will establish sub-offices in northern Sindh, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit. It was announced on Wednesday. A sub-office in Bahawalpur started functioning on July 12. Talking about the new offices, the HEC officials said they would guide the youth from far-flung areas about various HEC programmes, scholarships and keep a close liaison with the higher education institutions. They said the HEC had paid special attention to increasing access to higher education in remote areas of the country. As many as 31 of the 55 new university campuses were established in rural areas, they added. A number of scholarships and other programmes had been launched. They said the HEC was also managing the Prime Minister’s Tuition Fee Payment Scheme for students of Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and the FATA. The scheme has recently been extended to northern Sindh and southern Punjab.
