MUZAFFARABAD:

The main opposition party in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly has put its weight behind the no-confidence move against Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majid.

Tuesday’s decision by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) could help clear the way for Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry to reach the state’s Prime Minister Secretariat.

The PML-N has 11 members in the assembly.

“For the last two years, Majid and his party have not brought any change on the ground to address the basic issues of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir,” PML-N senior leader  Tariq Farooq said. Meanwhile, the head of the Peoples Party Forward Block, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has met his senior colleagues in Islamabad and discussed the issues to make no-confidence move a success. Barrister Mehmood was briefed by MLAs Majid Khan and Akbar Ibrahim about their meetings with other MLAs who had pledged support for the motion.

“The barrister also agreed to give a senior ministry to the PML-N and speakership to the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference,” forward block sources told The Express Tribune.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Majid has reached Islamabad to discuss how to counter the no-confidence motion and has met with AJK President Sardar Yaqoob Khan and other senior party leaders including Sardar Qamar Zaman and Chaudhry Yasin.
