KARACHI:
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Monday that local bodies elections will be held in the province once the security situation of Karachi improves, Express News reported.

"We have asked for a six months' time from the Supreme Court to hold elections," said Shah, adding that peace can only be achieved through the joint efforts of the federal and provincial governments.

He said that meeting with the Minister of Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan proved to be productive.

Khan visited Karachi on Monday to be briefed on the security situation of Karachi.

Shah’s Pakistan Peoples Party has been at loggerheads over a local bodies election with other parties from Sindh when it first came to power in 2008. Earlier this year, the government, having seen the back of their long term coalition partners, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, reinstated its preferred local government system of 1979 and had in its election campaign promised local body elections.
