Bahria Town is Asia’ largest real estate developer.
ISLAMABAD:
Bahria Town on Sunday welcomed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s taskforce set up to deal with energy crisis. In a press release issued to the media, the business group invited the taskforce to visit Bahria Town projects along with the press to see its grid stations and power generation units.
Instead of burdening the national resources, the Bahria Town projects in Rawalpindi and Lahore were running respectively 12 and 9 megawatts of generation units of their own, the statement said. These diesel based generation facilities produced electricity at Rs28 per unit. However the real estate developer provided electricity to its residents, hospitals and schools at a subsidised rate of Rs10 per unit – a facility which cost it millions of rupees per day.
In view of the limited resources of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Bahria Town not only constructed grid stations with its own resources, but also provided underground lines to its residents, the press release stated.
The group also bore the 43% losses in the shape of 30% line losses, 10% maintenance charges, 3% billing recovery charges; while paying 100% to the LESCO and the IESCO. Following this example, load shedding problem could be dealt with in all the housing societies of the country.
Bahria Town is Asia’ largest real estate developer, which has won accolades of recognition from such international media outlets and organisations as The Newsweek, CNN, Los Angeles Times and The Euroasia. Apart from building infrastructure, Bahria Town projects also provide world class schools, hospitals, golf courses, country club, five star hotels, parks, spa, squash and tennis courts, shopping malls, horse riding clubs and other modern housing facilities.
