Wildlife: Puma cubs doing well at Lahore Zoo
The cubs, who were born a couple of days ago, are with their mother at present, the zoo director said.
LAHORE:
Two puma cubs born at the Lahore Zoo are in good health and will be put on display in a few days, Zoo Director Anwar Maan said on Sunday.
The cubs, who were born a couple of days ago, are with their mother at present, the zoo director said.
Maan said it was standard practice to leave the cub with the mother for a while after birth.
If the children of carnivorous animals like the puma are removed immediately after birth, there is a risk that they will later be rejected by the mother and maybe even eaten, he said.
Maan said that over the last week, the zoo had also had a couple of other deliveries.
A hog deer had given birth to a litter of fawn.
Some cranes had also been born, he said. Rather than put them in a pond, the young cranes were for the moment being kept in the aviary, where they were a big attraction for children in particular, he added.
