FAISALABAD:
Dozens of mini-bus drivers on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against traffic wardens.
The protestors blocked the Sargodha Road and demanded that the wardens stop issuing “unjustified” fines.
Rafiq Ahmad, one of the protestors, said that wardens were issuing tickets without justification.
“The wardens appear to be issuing tickets as if they have to meet a target,” he said.
He said the DCO had allowed mini-bus drivers to carry two gas cylinders on their vehicles but the wardens were issuing tickets for it.
“They are also impounding vehicles having two cylinders,” he said.
Muhammad Nawaz, another protestor, said the drivers were being fined for using Route 19 and Route 13. “We pay the route fee and to get our permits …why are we being fined then?”
He said the wardens had turned a blind eye towards motorcycle rickshaws.
The protest ended when the Civil Lines SHO assured the protestors that the matter would be resolved soon.
