ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court termed Najam Sethi as the caretaker chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and ordered for the elections of a new chairman within 90 days in a 30 page detailed decision, Express News reported on Saturday.

All decisions made by Sethi in his capacity as caretaker chairman are null and void, as the legalities of the caretaker position does not allow such action.

According to the court’s decision, Najam Sethi will monitor the day-to-day functions of the PCB till a new chairman is elected under the supervision of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Requirements for the position of the new PCB chairman include qualifications of a former cricketer and minimum education of a graduate degree.

The court has termed articles 28, 29, 30 and 31 of the constitution of the PCB as invalid and asked for them to be scrapped immediately.

Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) had on June 25 termed the appointment of Sethi as contrary to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s constitution. On June 26, an amateur cricketer Abdullah Tahir filed a petition against the appointment in the Islamabad High Court, and demanded his immediate removal.

Tahir, a law graduate, in his petition claimed that Sethi’s appointment was made on a ‘political basis’ which was in violation of the PCB constitution.

The petitioner argued that the ICC has upgraded its standard to separate politics from cricket. Subsequently, the constitution of the board was amended. He requested the court to declare the appointment of Sethi as illegal, and pass an order for the appointment of a professional from the relevant field.

@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Believe me, your writings and your opinions did reflect your level pretty realistically and I personally didn't consider you as much, but of course, have sympathies for you. Now that you yourself confess the fact that you find yourself with 2 Masters inferior than High School Graduates, there's isn't much one can or should add here, except that yes even education can NOT make any difference when the minds are so tightly shut.
