A government girls middle school was partially destroyed when a bomb planted by unidentified militants against its boundary wall went off in Mama Khel area of Bannu on Friday.

Hawaid police official Gul Rauf Khan said a huge explosion occurred at around 1:10am after which he directed the police to rush to the site. Twenty minutes after the incident, police officials reported that unidentified militants had planted a bomb near the school’s main gate. Glass had shattered in a class room while the boundary wall was destroyed. The gate was removed from its base by the impact of the explosion.

The bomb disposal squad in-charge in Bannu, Wasal Khan, visited the site to determine the intensity of the blast, the official said. Wasal reported that five kilogrammes of explosives were planted in a canister and placed in front of the school gate.
