ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday approved the proposed amendments to the Shariah Nizam-e-Adl Regulation which stipulates that the police submit a complete challan within 14 days to the court or face disciplinary proceedings.

According to a statement from the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President approved the amendment on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The amendment in Shariah Nizam-e-Adl Regulation 2009 aims at streamlining and expediting the submission of complete challans.

It stipulates that the police submit challan within 14 days.

If the police fails to do so without obtaining a special extension from the magistrate, they will be made to face disciplinary proceedings.

The Nizam-e-Adl Regulation, which formally introduced Shariah law in Malakand division, was approved by President Zardari after parliamentary approval on April 13, 2009.
