Business Community: Action to curb power theft hailed
The country is losing power worth Rs40 billion every year on account of electricity theft.

Businessmen heaped praise on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for ordering stern action against those involved in electricity and gas theft and termed it a much needed initiative. In a meeting held at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) here on Tuesday, the community said they would support all efforts of the government against big power theft mafia to control massive pilferage of electricity and gas. Chairing the meeting, Zafar Bakhtawari, ICCI president said that as per NEPRA report, the country is losing power worth Rs40 billion every year on account of electricity theft. The government had been providing Rs.394billion subsidy per annum to power sector, which shows how the taxpayers’ money is being wasted.
