ISLAMABAD:

By the time plot auctions ended on Tuesday, it seemed that the Capital Development Authority’s top officials could already taste the samosas and pakoras. In their haste to rush to their Iftari destinations, the members of the CDA land auction committee hurriedly left the venue, and took the details of bids received along with them.

Auction proceedings commenced at 11am and remained in session till 7pm.

Normally, the auction committee shares details of bids received with the public relations office, which then releases them to media.

“The auction committee members took the details of bids fetched by the authority. I participated in the event as one of its members. It is the responsibility of the Public Relations director to participate in the auction and collect the details to share with the media,” said a CDA board member wishing not to be named.

Though Public Relations Director Asia Gull was present during the auction, she did not bother to provide the details to her office, which resulted in an embarrassing situation, the official added.

The Capital Development Authority received bids against nine commercial plots located in different sectors of Islamabad.

The highest bid received was Rs344,000 per square yard for plot 57-C in Blue Area, measuring 2,844.44 square yards. The said plot was also on offer during the last auction, but the low bid last time was rejected by the CDA Board.

The Authority presented a total of 12 commercial plots in different sectors, out of which bids were received against nine.

The other plots which received bids include one each in the markaz areas of sectors I-8, I-9 and G-11, and two plots each in sectors F-10 and G-11, which are marked for the construction of shopping centres.

On Wednesday, the authority will present 23 commercial plots in Sector I-12.

Public Relations Director Gull said the auction proceedings concluded “moments before Iftari time”.

She said the complete details of the two-day auction including bids offered, plots numbers and sizes would be shared with the media upon conclusion of the auction process on Wednesday.

She said necessary details including the number of plots against which bids are offered and their locations have been provided to the media, but the total amount the authority would receive after acceptance of bids has not yet been calculated. She termed the auction results “satisfactory”.
