President terminates NAB chairman appointment, 49 days after SC order

Supreme court had declared the appointment of Fasih Bokhari unlawful on May 28, 2013.

A notification issued by the office of the President, the appointment of NAB chairman Admiral (Rtd) Fasih Bokhari has been terminated.

The move comes two months (49 days) after the Supreme Court of Pakistan had issued an order directing the termination of Bokhari's appointment.

According to the notification, the President on Tuesday proceeded with the termination, acting on the Prime Minister's advice.


According to the summary of the ministry of law and justice, Supreme Court of Pakistan in its verdict on May 28, 2013 had declared the appointment of Fasih Bokhari as Chairman NAB to be without lawful authority and was set aside with immediate effect.

Bokhari had filed the review petition against the Supreme Court’s order, but the order was upheld.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s order, the ministry of law and justice had proposed the Prime Minister to advise the President to terminate the appointment of Fasih Bokhari as Chairman NAB.
