National U16 team heads to Nepal
Defending champions bid to retain title in South Asian football event.
KARACHI:
Pakistan U16 football coach Sajjad Mehmood said his team may set a record by successfully defending the title of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U16 Boys Championship in Nepal this month.
According to Mehmood, he picked players for the team during the national under-16 championship in Abbottabad last month.
He said he was confident the players will win the trophy for the country again as the event gets underway from July 20.
“We can set a record in Nepal,” Mehmood told The Express Tribune. “Our youngsters are very talented and we can definitely defend our title successfully.”
The SAFF Championship will feature teams from six South Asian Countries including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and hosts Nepal. The team, along with the officials, will leave for Kathmandu tomorrow.
