Governor Punjab's resignation accepted by acting president
Earlier in May, Ahmed Mehmood had announced his resignation two days after the general elections.

Acting President Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has accepted Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood’s resignation on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, reported Express News on Tuesday.
According to the sources, the outgoing governor had filed his resignation some time ago but the request was pending. Consequently, he applied for a two month leave from July 20, which resulted in a prompt action by the premiere.
A new name for the governor has not been finalised as yet, hence, the Speaker Punjab Assembly will perform the duties of the acting governor until a new governor is appointed.
Earlier in May, Ahmed Mehmood had announced his resignation two days after the general elections and had also declared that he would not take part in practical politics.
President Asif Ali Zardari rejected the resignation earlier only to accept it later in June, following the oath taking ceremony of the Punjab Chief Minister.
