Pervaiz Khattak will be leading protests against load-shedding in K-P. In a late night development, the K-P government decided to defer its protest campaign against power outages till Tuesday.
“If we don’t get our rights, we will protest”, said Khattak.
He proceeded to express disappointment in announcements made by PM Nawaz Sharif regarding a promise of no load-shedding during sehri and iftar time, though that has not been the case in the province.
Senior minister Siraj ul Haq who was also present at the press conference said, “We have water and we have the required flow to produce cheap electricity locally. We ask the government to make dams on Chitral River, Swat River and rivers in Kohistan instead of building the Kala Bagh Dam. We can produce 25 megawatts of electricity.”
“Why is the government focused on projects that have not materialized in over ten years?” he asked.
Pervaiz Khattak on Saturday censured the federal government over unscheduled power outages during Ramazan and demanded the Federal Ministry for Water and Power to provide K-P its full share of electricity.
During a press conference in Peshawar on Sunday, PTI MNAs said that PTI is with its people and will support them on the streets.

@abdullah: only for you hahahahah
@S: "If anything an assigned schedule of load shedding must be implemented" Fine, but this is a different matter than the question of equitable distribution of electric power. KP should not press too much as this is going to snowball and all provinces will think of monopolizing their resources. Let KP avoid setting a bad example. Lack of sufficient power is a national emergency, no one should think of it in parochial terms.
The next five years will be horrible for KP. yes worse than the already horrible previous 5 years. and the 5 years before that. Not only do we now have an incompetent and corrupt government (yes sure IK isn't, but everybody else is, including all those incharge in the province), but PML-N will make sure they do everything behind the scenes to sabotage the government in KP, including things such as load shedding and not allocating KP its fair share of energy.
We might all know its PML-N's doing that we don't have power, but ultimately the buck stops at PTI.
@Aahjiz BayNawa: You have a fair point, but I still believe that the demand made by Mr. Khattak is valid. If anything an assigned schedule of load shedding must be implemented, not only in KP but all over Pakistan. If we need to think like a nation than every province must be treated equally!
@S: I travel frequently between Sindh, Punjab, and I live in KP. My observation is that Punjab suffers most. Maybe KP produces more electricity than it is awarded but fair distribution is necessary without reference to who produces how much. If this principle was not applied, Baluchistan would want its gas reserves distributed as per its wishes. Punjab might not want to send its wheat surplus elsewhere. We should think as a nation, at least primarily.
@Aahjiz BayNawa: But the whole country seems to be getting it's fair share of electricity and then some...KP isn't even get it's fair share. It's not about gaining political capital.
Dear Sirs,
I would like to add few words in order to promote Rt.Hon Pervaiz Khattak C.M. agenda for the construction of new dams on several rivers in K.P. region. This is very important and viable proposal to generate immense amount of electricity to meet the current need of the population in entire Pakistan. It is important to secure International assistance for these projects which available at a stroke of a button. Western companies are very co-operative in this direction. Therefore, it is important for the K.P. administration to make a case for assistance before central global banks and western governments.
It is important to use available time for constructive purposes so that people can enjoy the true fruits of a democratic system.
Mr Pervaiz Khattak C.M. has all the resources of the state at his disposal. Please use these resources to bring change in the region.
I previously suggested to impose BAN ON ALL KIND OF WEAPONS in the region. And make region peaceful for progress and prosperity. Thank you & God Bless.
Yours sincerely,
Mohammed Saleem Awan
The whole country is suffering form power outages, not just KP. Just be patient for a while and take it easy. Don't try to make political capital out of a national crisis.
Power theft in KPK is the highest...I am from Peshawar and every second person is involved in electricity theft...Mr. CM, concentrate on reducing line losses rather than perotesting.
How about the royalties still pending on Fedral Govt to Pay .....Dear Punjabi friends Enough is Enough don't try to create another Baluchistan here The land of the ppl has the first right to its resources...........Give the distribution to Provincial Govt. to make effective and curb electricity theft ......
Punjab does not produce any gas, does not produce any electricity, doesn't even intend to produce any through other renewable energy resources. Yet, will take up all that is the due share of other provinces and will then rant about patriotism and federation. Being a Punjabi, I demand its high time to resolve such grave issues like the distribution of resources on urgent basis and to remove loopholes to strengthen the federation and to divide Punjab into smaller units. This will not create anymore hatred towards Punjab by the smaller units.
@Sabir Cheema:
Please do not misquote at least during Ramadhan - for your own sake.
@Naseer Ahmad:
40% line loss can only be due to theft.
I am hearing that lately in Karachi KESC is discriminating the load shedding on the basis of theft ratio, the areas where there is less theft gets lesser load shedding. Its a good thing if that is the case.
CM Pervaiz Khattak forgot to ask for other schedules..... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ For 20 % GDP Growth 100 % Employment Free Healthcare . Zero Militancy Best Educational Facilities.......etc etc.
"We want a schedule for load-shedding, says CM Pervaiz Khattak" +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fair enough! Draw thw schedule and work to achieve it:).
Fair demand by pti.the punjabi league will do every thing to fail pti in kpk but people r with pti in kpk.
Good Job..... Where will CM Khattak Protest? In front of Mon MOhin Singh? In front of Dehli Parliament? of course he will up against Sharif and Islamabad. this is his right. he is protesting against Federal Govt not against Punjab govt. dont mix it....
@Twister: "Then Punjab shouldn't protest about gas load-shedding in winter because they have highest gas theft ratio in Pakistan" talking like that will weaken the so-called federation,Pakhtunkhwa produced more electricity than it require for the sake of federation they can sell it to other country to earn more money than they earn today.
@ haider, the electricity generated in KPK is not free , federal govt has taken multi billion dollar loan for that, so it would be nice if once in a while people of kpk would pay some bills on its usage. On the point that KPK is not receiving its due share, theres an electricity shortage in the country none of the provinces are receiving their shares .
@Twister: Any credible statistics regarding electricity theft region wise. Please share with us.
Here is what PTI is thinking: Let's just indulge in populist stunts, since we can't do anything about electricity crisis and for which we can easily blame the Center. This would help keep the people of KP distracted from our failure to control law and order in KP, which is a provincial matter and for which we can't blame the Center. This would also help the people of KP distracted from our leader's absence at the time of a crucial meeting on national security and his presence at Great Britain's Royal Family's grand party.
The 18th Amendment grants power generation rights to provinces but at the same under Article- 74 of the constitution the provinces are under constitutional obligation to give the entire amount of electricity of power plants producing electricity above the ceiling of 20 megawatts to national grid, the distribution system of which faulty to such an extent that 40 percent of electricity produced is wasted in line losses. It is time that federal government convene the meeting of Council of Common Interest to clear the Grey areas still blurring the demarcation line between federal and provincial subjects.
What about schedule for PTI election promises by "90 days Khan". Fix everything in 90 days...
@Twister: That is a fair point...but the fact still remains that KP is being cheated out of its fair share of electricity. It's not even receiving the 350 MW that it is entitled to.
fair demand! KPK is producing the most electricity and even then not being provided its due share!..
@Twister is it really required to compare oranges and apples all the time!
@Nadir Red Herring
The PTI trolls made fun of Shehbaz sharif when he protested against loadshedding during his last tenure, and now Parvez Khattak is doing the same .... any lame defense for this action ??
Great stuff. Come in power to protest. Whats the point to be in government if you are going to act as a party out of power? Isnt there any better for the state apparatus in KP to do while you are protesting?
Oh you just wanted the schedule, here: There is no schedule
So three dams will produce just 25 MW of electricity? That does not seem correct. Please check figures ET.
How about getting a schedule for reducing theft and line losses, which in some regions of KPK are the highest in Pakistan?
