Alternative energy: Subsidy for solar powered tube wells

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Agriculture Farrukh Javed said on Sunday the government would provide up to 80 per cent subsidy on the installation of tube wells powered by solar energy. He made the announcement at a meeting attended by Agriculture Secretary Ejaz Munir and Water Management Director General Chaudhry Ashraf. Javed said the government would also provide solar panels to farmers who had less than 12.5 acres of land. He said solar panels could be installed in some districts where the water table was 50 to 80 below surface. The minister said the government was planning to install 100 solar powered tube-wells in the first phase.
