The tail-end areas of Sindh continue to face an acute shortage of irrigation water despite the provincial government’s pledge to ensure adequate supply. The government recently formed a committee for this purpose but it has failed to take action against powerful landlords who allegedly steal water through political patronage and by bribing irrigation department officials. Crop growers in the tail-end areas have demanded the government put a stop to water theft and ensure proper supply to their farmlands.
