Cost of food: High prices at Ramazan Bazaars vex customers

“Prices of commodities at Ramazan Bazaars are beyond the reach of an average consumer,” Shaista Naureen, a shopper at Jhang Model Bazaar, said on Saturday.
She said, “I checked all stalls set up in the bazaar to buy dates but there were no good quality.” She added, “When I visited vegetable stalls, I was shocked to see stale and rotten potatoes being sold at high prices.” A survey of the Ramazan Bazaars revealed that grapes were being sold for Rs280-300 per kg; peaches for Rs130-150 per kg; apricots for Rs190-200 per kg; plums for Rs200-250 per kg; mangoes for Rs100-150 per kg, bananas at Rs125-150 while low quality dates were being sold at Rs80-100 per kg. A samosa is being sold for Rs15, pakoras are selling at Rs250-300 per kg; potatoes at Rs50-60 per kg; tomatoes at Rs120-150 per kg; peas at Rs250-300 per kg and apples at Rs200-250 per kg.
