No safety measures?: Six labourers killed at Gadani

He added that it would be justified if the labourers launched a protest against all injustices.

KARACHI:
Six labourers have died and several others have been injured in the past two weeks at Gadani Ship Breaking Yard due to lack of safety equipment, said National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) on Friday.

In an emergency meeting with Gadani Shipyard Labour Union over the death of two labourers on Friday, NFTUF general secretary Nasir Mansoor demanded Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Balochistan chief minister to take notice of the deaths.

He added that it would be justified if the labourers launched a protest against all injustices.

“Almost 0.8 million people are associated with this business but the government has still not taken any steps for safety,” he said.

He stated that the entrepreneurs with the cooperation of government officials use hazardous chemicals at the yard.
