Anti-electricity theft unit formed in FIA

ISLAMABAD:
An Anti-electricity theft unit has been formed in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the orders of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Express News reported Friday.

The purpose of the unit is to investigate how electricity is being stolen and to take action against the corrupt officials of Wapda and Desco, who are involved in the theft.


The prime minister has appointed Hussain Asghar as the head of the unit.

During a meeting with Asghar Friday morning, Nawaz Sharfi ordered him to take immediate action against the corrupt officials.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) disclosed on June 12, that electricity worth Rs40 billion is stolen every year because of prevalent malpractices in power distribution companies.
