Nawaz decides to accept Governor Punjab’s resignation: Sources
Speaker Punjab Assembly will perform the duties of the acting governor until a new governor is appointed.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to accept Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood’s resignation, sources revealed to Express News on Friday.
According to the sources, the outgoing governor had filed his resignation some time ago but the request was pending. Consequently, he applied for a two month leave from July 20, which resulted in a prompt action by the premiere.
The summary to accept the resignation has reached the prime minister, sources further added.
Since new name for the governor has not been finalised as yet, hence, the Speaker Punjab Assembly will perform the duties of the acting governor until a new governor is appointed.
Earlier in May, Ahmed Mehmood had announced his resignation two days after the general elections and had also declared that he would not take part in practical politics.
President Asif Ali Zardari rejected the resignation earlier only to accept it later in June, following the oath taking ceremony of the Punjab Chief Minister.
