Earlier on Thursday, the BBC Urdu reported that the London Metropolitan Police was conducting an investigation against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain on charges of money laundering and provocation to torture, reported on Thursday.
London Police wrote a response to BBC Urdu Service verifying the raids on Altaf Hussain’s residence and office. They also acceded that huge sums of money were seized from his home and office.
The investigation has started but no arrests have been made as yet, police said.
Furthermore, during a reports prepared by BBC show News Night, the police told a BBC correspondent that the investigation into former MQM leader Imran Farooq's murder was also underway.
The MQM Rabita Committee in a press conference on Thursday evening though condemned the BBC for using portions of Altaf Hussain statements from some of his public speeches out of context.
They added that they reserved the right to protest peacefully.
