Lowari tunnel Project: Envoy says Austrian consultants facing security woes

Austrian envoy Axel Wech has expressed concern over the hurdles being faced by Austrian consultants working on the Lowari road tunnel project in terms of security and financial constraints.
The envoy shared these concerns in a meeting with Communications Secretary Muhammad Arshad Bhatti.
The Lowari Road tunnel — a project initiated back in 2006 with the special interest of the then President Pervez Musharraf — aims to connect Chitral with the rest of the country
An official in the ministry, who was also part of the meeting, said that the Austrians were much concerned over non-realisation of funds to the Austrian consultants working on the project. The ambassador also voiced his fears about the security problems being faced by the consultants at the project site.
A handout issued by the communications ministry read that Ambassador Wech said the Austrian government and people have close, friendly relations with the people of Pakistan and therefore, his country invests more in Pakistan than in any other Asian country. “We plan to invest in Pakistan and provide technical support to the social sector in here,” the ambassador added.
