Civil Lines police registered an FIR under Section-302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section-7 of the Anti Terrorism Act against Advocates Nadeem Tahir and Naeem Shahzad Sandhu for killing Tariq Mahmood, a marble trader, on September 16. The investigation officer in the case sub inspector (SI) Rehmat Khan told The Express Tribune that the investigation indicated that accused Tahir had a clash with deceased Mahmood over a minor accident. He said that following the clash, Tahir called his accomplice Sandhu and both men started beating him with bricks. Khan said that Mahmood also hit Sandhu in his eye and injured him. He said that accused Sandhu had also gotten a Medico Legal Report under section 337 F-4 and had tried to register an FIR against relatives of the deceased. Khan said that Sandhu was unsuccessful as no relative of the deceased reached the spot. The investigation officer told the court that although the deceased had called his supporters to the spot he died before they could reach the scene.
Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo motu notice of the case on September 18 and summoned the IG Police on September 24. The IG was directed to ensure an impartial inquiry into the case. Both of the accused lawyers surrendered to the police on September 22.
