MUZAFFARABAD:
At least two people were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident in Kamsar Valley, some seven kilometres from here, when a passenger bus skidded and overturned.

The passenger bus (MDX210), which was going to Neelum Valley from Muzaffarabad, reportedly skidded and overturned on the main Neelum Valley Road in the Kamsar area. As a result of the mishap, six-year-old Areesha Manzoor and 45-year-old Muhasan Noor, both residents of Neelum Valley, died on the spot.

All the injured were shifted to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan Hospital for treatment, where doctors said two persons remain in critical condition.

Meanwhile, a man drowned in the main River Neelum in Kahrigam in the Neelum Valley while taking a bath.

According to police, 25-year-old Khamir Mir slipped into the river after losing his balance. He was swept away by the strong river currents. Locals were able to retrieve the body after a long search.

Meanwhile, local people demanded that a Rescue 15 office be set up in Neelum Valley to address such events. “If we had trained rescue personnel, Khamir’s life could have been saved, as he was in the water for more than half-an-hour, but we all lacked the means to rescue him,” said a local.
