Cheques distributed: Importance of expats highlighted
The Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) has distributed cheques among families of victims of the Iraq-Kuwait war.

The Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) has distributed cheques among families of victims of the Iraq-Kuwait war hailing from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Out of the 24 families in total, 13 have been given Rs180,000 to Rs300,000 while the remaining 11 victims would receive the same amount in the next phase of the distribution.
OPF Manager Iftikhar Babar said cheques worth more than Rs701 million have been distributed among the Iraq-Kuwait war victims so far. The total amount provided by the United Nations was more than Rs17.67 billion. The markup of this amount, Rs1.41 billion, is being distributed among the 44, 920 victims on the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
He informed that more than eight million Pakistanis are living in different countries whose remittances play a vital role in the country’s economy, while OPF is working to gather comprehensive data on them so as to be able to support them in difficult times.
