Devolution: LG elections likely in six months, says PPP
Dr Mandhro said that an expansion in the cabinet is likely with the induction of new ministers.
KARACHI:
Sindh Assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and law minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro said that the government may hold local government elections within the next six months. The duo said that the government has invited the opposition parties to initiate a dialogue over the issue. “In democratic countries when laws are made, they are not final as amendments can be made,” said Durrani, when asked to comment on Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s strong reaction over the enforcement of the Sindh Local Government Law 1979. He also said that those protesting against the said law must not forget that they became the mayors of this city by contesting elections under the same law. Dr Mandhro said that an expansion in the cabinet is likely with the induction of new ministers.
