Liaqat only realistic hope for Pakistan: Sahi
AFP president tips sprinter to shine at Asian Athletics Championship.
KARACHI:
Athletics Federation of Pakistan President Akram Sahi has said that sprinter Liaqat Ali will be Pakistan’s main hope for a medal in the Asian Athletics Championship that is scheduled to start today in India.
Pakistan sent a five-member squad which include three male athletes Liaqat (Army), Mohammad Asad (Wapda), Imran (Army) and two female players Najma Fazeen (Wapda) and youngster Maria Muratib.
Liaqat will be participating in the 100m and 200m sprints, while Asad will compete in the 400m race and Imran will be trying his luck in the javelin throw.
Meanwhile, Najma will run in the 100m and 200m competitions while Maria would be competing in the 100m hurdles.
“Gold medal is out of the question but we can
claim silver or bronze if Liaqat runs well,” Sahi told The Express Tribune.
