Another bomb planted inside government school defused in district.
LAKKI MARWAT:
A house was partially destroyed when a bomb planted by unidentified militants went off in Shadi Khel area of Frontier Region (FR) Lakki Marwat on Tuesday.
Abdur Rahman, an official of the political administration, said a huge explosion occurred outside the boundary wall of his house at around 3am. Neighbours rushed to the site and went to inspect the rear end of the building.
Rahman said unidentified militants had planted the bomb along the wall of the house and detonated it. Parts of the wall caved in while cracks appeared in a nearby room’s wall.
Political administration officials along with khasadars went to investigate the cause of the blast and said four kilogrammes of explosives had been placed in a canister.
According to Abdur Rahman he had no enmities, however, a tribal elder from the area requesting anonymity said militants have been demanding extortion money from scores of tribesmen in FR regions and have threatened to bomb their houses in case of refusal.
The elder revealed Rahman was also among the tribesmen who had been told to pay extortion, however, he had refused because of which his house was targeted.
Bomb defused
Meanwhile, a bomb planted inside a government-run primary school for boys in Sarai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat district was defused by the bomb disposal squad (BDS) on Tuesday morning.
Sarai Naurang police official Ameer Khan said around 8am they received information about the bomb and rushed to the site and called in the BDS.
The area was cordoned off, while BDS officials defused the bomb. Five kilogrammes of explosives were used in the device.
Police filed a case against unidentified militants and an investigation is underway.
