Safe journey: Govt directed to regulate transport

PESHAWAR:
The Peshawar High Court has directed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government to legislate comprehensive laws for passenger vehicles not adopting safety measures.

The transport department’s assistant director told the court steps had been taken to ensure safety in all vehicles and submitted a detailed report during a suo motu notice hearing on Tuesday. He informed more than 6,000 vehicles have been fined for overloading or emitting smoke, 42 illegal bus stand were sealed, route permits for 13 others cancelled and owners of 102 cars given show-cause notices for not carrying fire extinguishers.
