RAWALPINDI:

Civil society activists demanded that the Punjab government effectively enforce a right to information policy and online complaint handling mechanism in the Punjab Police Act 2013.

The activists said the Punjab police already have an access to information policy, but it is not implemented or practiced in the present police culture.

These views were expressed Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) Programme Manager Kausar Abbas in a statement issued on Monday

He demanded that the Punjab government include an access to information policy in the Police Act as it would strengthen the working environment of the department.

He said that right to information was practiced in more than 100 countries of the world.

He also highlighted the need for a proper and effective complaint handling mechanism in all districts.
