KARACHI:

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has established the ‘Dow Safe Blood Donor Club 25’ in a bid to ensure the provision of safe blood products to needy patients.

This was announced by the institute’s vice-chancellor, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, at a press briefing on Saturday. The club’s establishment, which is based on the World Health Organisation’s International Club 25, marks the occasion of World Blood Donor Day 2013.

The initiative attempts to encourage young adults, aged 16 to 25 years, to give voluntary, safe blood donations. Members commit to giving blood regularly and adopting a healthy lifestyle in order to be low-risk donors. They also raise awareness about blood donations among their peers and motivate others to donate.

Prof. Khan said that the young blood donors Club programme was based on 100 per cent voluntary donations. It was the inculcation of a culture of voluntary blood donations through communication and education.
