KARACHI:
After spending more than a year playing domestic events, four-time national scrabble champion Waseem Khatri will resume his international career with back-to-back events.
Khatri, part of an 18-member squad, will feature at the Penang International Championship in Malaysia, before participating in the 28th King’s Cup Championship in Thailand next month.
Being the country’s lone hope, Khatri was nervous about his international participation after a long break.
“It’s a great opportunity as I haven’t played an international tournament in a while,” Khatri told The Express Tribune. “I don’t know to what extent international players have improved during my time off. But I want to finish in the top 10 at least.”
Previously, Khatri participated in Penang in 2011, where he finished 13th out of 50 elite players.
The Malaysia event begins on July 4.
