Malam Jabba Resort devolved to K-P government
Provincial tourism minister hopes transfer of other resorts will be fast tracked.
After witnessing a distressing war in what is termed as the Switzerland of Pakistan and almost three years after the 18th Amendment was passed, the Malam Jabba Resort was devolved to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provincial government on Thursday.
A press release from the Tourism Corporation Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday read that the the decision has come as a pleasant surprise to all. The announcement comes just as the tourism season hits it peak.
The Malam Jabba Land Resort (MJRL) saw the light of the day due to the harmony, mutual cooperation and direct communication between the Federal government and provincial government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The General Manager Administration and Properties Sajjad Hameed stated that very soon the other properties will be transferred as well.
“Getting the ownership of Malam Jabba Land Resort is a remarkable achievement and is another feather in the cap of Tourism Corporation Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.”
Nine employees of the MJLR have also been transferred to the provincial government.
The Managing Director TCKP Tarik Jamil said that “TCKP is planning to establish a tented village on top of Malam Jabba to provide services and accommodation to adventure tourists”.
“Previously a PTDC Motel was constructed there but was later destroyed during the militancy era. Since time is short and the summer season has begun, a tented resort is being immediately planned to facilitate tourists, as accommodation facilities are already very scarce”.
Finalisation of the devolution process with regards to the transfer of MJRL as well as PTDC will be helpful for the better and effective management of these facilities for the promotion of tourism in the province.
The Minister for Tourism Mehmood Khan urged the federal government to also further accelerate the process of the distribution of assets and liabilities of PTDC on pre-devolution status on the projects of Pakistan Austria International Tourism Hotel Management (PAITHOM) and Department of Tourist Services (DTS) along with the Malam Jabba Land Resort.
