Terror continues: SHC lawyer succumbs to injuries a week after attack

KARACHI:
A Sindh High Court lawyer, Ahmed Ali Jan Bangash, succumbed to his injuries after a week’s treatment at the hospital. Meanwhile, six people were killed in separate acts of violence across the city on Thursday.

The deceased lawyer was critically injured in an attack allegedly over his sectarian identity. Baghdadi police said that on 23 June, unidentified armed men opened fire at his car when he was passing through the area with his son, Shabir Ali Jan Bangash. They added that Shabbir died on the spot while Ahmed Ali was injured.

In a separate incident, an embroiderer, Irfan Ullah Ansari, 40, was shot dead by unknown assailants when he was going home from the mosque after offering Fajr prayers. The incident occurred in Nazimabad No. 2, in the remits of Gulbahar police station. The body of the deceased was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.




In another incident, a young man was shot dead in the remits of Kalri police station. The police believe that the victim belonged to the Kutchi community. They added that he was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons who had shot him at point-blank range and dumped his body. A case has been registered against unidentified men.

A young man was shot dead within the remits of Chakiwara police station. The victim’s identity has yet to be ascertained, however, the police believe that he belonged to the Kutchi community.

In an incident of domestic violence, a mother of three was allegedly axed to death by her husband over suspicions of illicit relations in the limits of Jackson Police Station. Police believe that the victim’s husband, Nawaz, had killed her with an axe and then escaped from the scene. They added that the suspect hailed from Sargodha.

Police constable Muhammad Asif, 32, was shot dead allegedly over sectarian reasons near his home in the limits of Rizvia police station. Police said the incident occurred at Liaquat Chowk where the victim was sitting with his friend when armed men shot him multiple times and escaped. Police said the victim was married and deployed at the crime branch. The body of the deceased was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
