BAHAWALPUR:

Cattle in riverine areas are being vaccinated, District Officer (Livestock) Dr Muhammad Yaqoob Anjum said on Thursday.

The campaign that started on June 15, will continue till December 3.

He said 56,880 cattle had been vaccinated since the campaign started. He said 23 centres had been set up for the purpose.

Anjum said all the centres had been set up along the River Sutlej from Head Islam to Head Panjnad.

As many as 23 veterinary officers and 46 veterinary assistants had been deployed at these centres.

He said that a report regarding the vaccination was being sent to the department daily.

He also said that the target for Bahawalpur district was to vaccinate 1.1 million big cattle and 1.2 million sheep and goats.

“Unfortunately, this target is never met due to lack of human resources,” he said. He said Rs900,000 was distributed among 36 farms for farming of 650 cattle animals under the Livestock Support Programme.
