Shabbir shines on opening day

Leads with five-under-par at CNS Golf Championship.

Pakistan golf star Shabbir Iqbal dominated proceedings on the opening day of the 18th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Golf Championship, finishing with a score of five-under 67 at Karachi Golf Club yesterday.

He was closely followed by Ahmed Saeed who managed a two-under 70, while the trio of Afsar Ali, Muhammad Siddique and Matloob Ahmed were joint third with scores of one-under 71.

Shabbir said he was looking forward to winning the Karachi circuit during the next couple of weeks. The experienced golfer has made his way into the event at the back of winning the Independence Cup and registering a hole-in-one at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club last Sunday.


This championship has already set a new benchmark as it carries the richest winning purse worth Rs5.1 million with the winner to be awarded Rs650,000. In addition, the golfer to register the first hole-in-one will get a car worth more than Rs2 million.
