PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has stopped Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) from collecting Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC) in electricity bills and extended its stay order till September 10.

The orders were issued while hearing around 72 different petitions filed last year against collecting FAC.

Counsel for the petitioners, Shumail Butt argued imposing FAC in monthly electricity bills was in violation of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Act, 1997.

He said electricity was being produced at a cost of Rs1.30 per unit from hydel power projects, but is being mixed with thermal power, which in turn increases per unit cost of electricity.
