ISLAMABAD:
The provincial government cannot succeed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa if there is no national policy against terrorism, Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Monday.

In his first visit to Peshawar after PTI formed government in K-P, Imran urged for the formulation of a home-based national policy to restore peace in the region.

Addressing press officials after meeting with the coalition partners of K-P at the Chief Minister Secretariat, Imran said, "Before 2004, there was peace in the tribal area but the military operations carried out at the behest of US destroyed that."

He said that for restoring law and order, the federal government must distance itself from the war on terror.

"Whenever the government initiates peace talks with Taliban, US carries out drone strikes which sabotages the entire process," Imran explained.

He further said, "PTI will back federal government if they come up with an anti-drone policy."

Role of MPAs

In its bid to control corruption in the province, PTI will bar K-P’s elected members from transferring public servants.

Imran, while announcing this move, said earlier MPAs would transfer government officers if they refuse to become a party to their crime.

He said the K-P government will now investigate each case and those found guilty will be dealt according to the law.

"We are trying to reduce government expenses and finding new ways of increasing government revenue," Khan said.

He said that 32 rest-houses reserved for MPAs in Galyat will be converted to guest houses so they could earn revenue which can then be spent on the development of the area.

Assets

The PTI chairman said all K-P ministers, lawmakers and bureaucrats will declare their assets and details will be put on government websites.

Imran said this way people will be able to see the increase in their wealth and check it against their source of income.

Royalties

Speaking about Karak and Kohat – areas that are paid royalties, Imran said the money was earlier paid to the legislators but now the government will set up district development authorities which will receive the money and use it for development.

Sports facilities

Imran promised that sports facilities will be established at district-level in the province, with focus on cricket, squash, hockey and volleyball.

He further said that the revival of Pakistan’s cricket will begin from K-P, where he himself will work closely with the local sports authorities.

Imran went on to claim that the team from K-P will alone be capable enough to represent Pakistan at the international level.
