Vacating posts: Swabi ANP leaders resign over electoral defeat
Say they will continue to serve the party as activists.
SWABI:
Awami National Party (ANP) office bearers from PK-32 Swabi-II resigned from their posts on Saturday over the party’s electoral defeat in the 2013 general elections.
Both Haji Muhammad Zahid, party president in PK-32, and Intizar Muhammad announced their resignation on Saturday. They claimed the resignation was tendered on moral grounds and expressed determination to participate as party workers.
Earlier, members of the Shewa chapter also renounced party positions, and asked district president Haji Rehmanullah, who submitted his resignation on Wednesday, to take steps to reorganise the party in Swabi district.
According to chapter members, the resignations of workers is in accordance with the ANP’s constitution and after giving up their office, members will struggle as party activists to regroup in the district.
Meanwhile, the PK-31 Swabi-I chapter called upon the central and provincial leadership to not accept Rehmanullah and district general secretary Haji Tamraiz Khan’s resignation as the two men were needed to boost the party in the area.
In a press conference on Saturday, PK-31 president Gohar Khan said both leaders should rethink and not vacate their positions so they can better serve the ANP in reorganising the party. The party faced a crushing defeat on May 11 because of pre-planned rigging, alleged party members.
