Day of mourning: Shops re-open at 4pm

All shops and businesses in Karachi resumed regular activity after 4pm on Saturday.
Earlier, All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Chairman Atiq Mir said shops would open at 4pm, Express News reported.
The decision to open shops and markets was made after an approval from Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Rabita committee.
Karachi Transport Ittehad will consider whether to call off the transport strike after overlooking the situation in Karachi. Petrol Pump owners have announced that pumps will open in safe areas.
During a press conference in Karachi on Saturday, one of Rabita Committee’s deputy conveners Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui announced that MQM will carry out peaceful demonstrations all over the city on Sunday.
Parts of rural and urban Sindh, including Karachi, saw little traffic and businesses closed as MQM observed a day of mourning to protest against the killing of their MPA on Friday.
Sajid Qureshi was killed along with his son after Friday prayers in North Nazimabad, Karachi.
Qureshi was the third MQM MPA to be targeted and killed. MQM leader Abdul Rashid appealed to the concerned authorities to take action against the killers.
Public transport, petrol stations and offices remained close in parts of Sindh as security officials stood guard in major areas.
Firing continued in Nawabshah and Karachi since yesterday.
Around 16 people have been killed in the past 24 hours in Karachi.
A bus was torched in Baldia Number 4.
Protesters in Sukkur torched tyres while all shops remain closed. No traffic was seen out on the streets.
Large scale preparations for the funeral prayers continued at Jinnah Ground, near MQM headquarters Nine Zero. The ground can accommodate nearly 50,000 people and was heavily guarded by the police and MQM guards throughout the prayer service.
MQM will hold a press conference at 4pm today.
