The Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has threatened a sit-in in front of the Parliament House if their demand for raises is not met by June 25.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Rana Naseer Ahmad, the PTU district president, said a 10 per cent raise was a joke.
“The salaries must be raised in line with the inflation, he said.
Ahmad said the teachers wanted a substantial raise in salaries and a 100 per cent increase in other allowances. He said if their issues were not addressed, the teachers would surround the Parliament House on June 25 and boycott work.
Also on Friday, the All Pakistan Clerks Association observed a pen-down strike at all government offices in the district.
The APCA protesters marched through several roads before assembling at the City railway station chowk. They shouted slogans asking for a 25 per cent increase in salaries.
At a gathering in Madina Town later, the All Pakistan Clerks Association divisional president Akhtar Ali Shaheen said that all provincial governments except Punjab had announced a 15 per cent raise in the salaries. He asked why the Punjab government was discriminating against its workers.
