Imran Khan is not some autocratic supreme leader, who magically controls the thoughts and actions of all those who are under his party’s umbrella. Voltaire once said, “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.”
The PTI immediately distanced itself from the personal views of the MNA, but people insist that it was official PTI policy that Qadri be released, perhaps forgetting that Imran Khan was one of the first to condemn Salmaan Taseer’s murder.
Ludicrously enough, people are attempting to use this opportunity for more PTI bashing and using broad strokes to paint the party as one with an extremist ideology, admonishing the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) for being the birthing place for the party.
Pakistan is the only country in the world where instead of being anti-war, so called liberals are vocal proponents of military actions, consequences be damned.
The war in Afghanistan against the Taliban has cost the US billions of dollars and resulted in the loss of countless lives, both military and civilian. We should also bear in mind the psychological damage inflicted upon the affected people and how it will adversely impact the children and the next generation for decades to come. Even the US has come to the realisation that this is a war that cannot be won on the battlefield. That is why there are reports of formal negotiations with the Taliban.
Yet, Imran Khan is blasted for being pro-Taliban and anti-freedom when all he wants is to avoid further bloodshed and a pointless cycle of violence that will bear no fruit.
Yes, Naya Pakistan is here or, at least, it is predominantly in K-P. People are now more participative and vested in politics and how our country is being governed. They are more interested in ethics and the rule of law. They are also more interested in holding their politicians accountable for carrying out their responsibilities that have been entrusted upon them.
Naya Pakistan is here, where for the first time in the history of the country, education has been made the prime focus and recipient of funds in K-P’s budget. Educated children are vital for the success of our nation if there is going to be any hope of advancement from the mess that we currently find ourselves in.
If you ask me, the people of K-P seem to be in good hands indeed.

PTI is hypocrite either it is endorse terrorism or fear terrorist so much that it thinks it can escape death which ANP PPP and MQM has faced from terrorists. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRzNfavImcU
maini khwaja good well done you are a patriotic pakistani
Oh really? Tell your party to get rid of the blasphemy laws then if you and your party are such champions of free speech.
Only PTI policies on all issues are written and very clear. Controlling individual thought isn't possible; however, those who won't be able to continue with party vision and policy will be filtered out automatically. Yes, This is a Naya Pakistan where youth are more active in politics than respected seniors.
Immediately.
PTI is a party of Juvenile Delinquents and abusive youths who are addicted to Facebook and Twitter. Their idea of Naya Pakistan is freedom through rebellion, support TTP hate America, and milking Pakistanis living abroad of their wealth to support PTI.
I think Voltaire is PTI’s favorite as I have heard many enthusiasts quoting the same, but can we have a single statement at party level from PTI, condemning brutal acts of terrorism by Taliban? Not to mention, ironically though, its own workers have been target of these attacks.
Apparently you have never seen a true democracy in actin before, otherwise you would not be making such illogical and childish suggestions on your own behalf
Oh wow?
So when Javed Hashmi calls Nawaz Sharif his leader, the PTI forces him to take his statement back. Where is the freedom of speech then?
For God's sake ET, stop publishing illogical crap from college students if you want us to read this paper seriously.
The serious fall of IK, the dirty laundry about Fouzia, the Hashmi statement, Qureshi statement against Gillani son’s kidnapping, the beatings of lion with the bat by IK himself, the speech against co-ed by party Gen Sec., the official NA statement of Ali, joining of hands with JI and other extreme groups, exclusion of women from KPK cabinet and likes are all examples of great organization with new ideology and policy.
Are you serious angry ballerina? or did you write this article is satire. I think the whole purpose of Imran Khan and PTI was to do away with the old ways, there is something called an internal policy and all political leaders make sure that members tow a line - which is missing here. This is not the first one by a PTI member; in 2010 there was a PTI member who called for ST's assassination; NS is Jawaid Hashmi's leader while JH is in PTI; now this. Funny though Khan sahib has not addressed this issue. PTI looks like a ship which is being run by all the sea-men and the captain has no clue what is going on, such ships normally don't get anywhere except they sink.
If we were to accept that the statement by PTI, MNA was his personal view and not that of the party in that case we have to also accept the PTI is not a cohesive, well organized party but a crowd of rabble-rousers.
thank you for writing this piece of opinion! PTI bashing especially by the Express Tribune is at an all time high and finally someone has said what we all are shouting out a little coherently!
Dear Author, education has been given much preference in the KP budget only financially. PTI agreeing first to a JI education minister, and then agreeing to their demand that the JI will have a say in the education ministry with a PTI minister will no doubt give rise to radicalisation in the 'Naya KP' you speak of. Education is the only weapon we have against the prevalent militant mindset among many of us. I won't be surprised if by 2018, children are fully trained to kill the 'kaafir wajib-ul-qatals who shamelessly walk around freely in the Fort of Islam'. You would say I'm only looking at one side of the picture, but this alliance with the JI is exactly why PTI deserves to be bashed.
It's quite interesting to see the paid PML-N social media team in action. This article is about freedom of speech and differentiating party policies from individual statements.
The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you shed on it, the more it contracts.
Ignore the hate brigade and full speed ahead, Imran--we are with you all the way!
I am glad to see PTI folks realizing what thye have been doing for years was wrong.
If statements and actions fo PTI MNAs and MPAs are their personal acts, the same courtesy should be extended to other political parties, right.
PTI will always attract more flak because of moral high ground that they claim to occupy. Its time to toughen up and face the music.
P.S. The education budget of KPK is only a numbers game, and not very facny too. The net inflation adjusted increase is %0.
Supporting extremism is bad - supporting an extremist assassin is atrocious. PTI should have kicked him out of the party but chose to remain quiet - they deserve criticism and the author should spend his time writing letters to IK demanding that he give this guy the boot.
I voted for PTI, but to me it seems that the party is going through some sort of internal struggle and Imran Khan isn't the one who's calling the shots right now - and with the kind of heavyweight career politicians that he's brought into the party's top-tier ranks, it seems like the power struggle is only getting started. The party that emerged post-elections is far from the one that Imran Khan started off with.
@PML(Personal) Paid comments:
have you ever read the constitution of pakistan? or any other democracy of the world? Floor of the assembly is very much the place to express opinions... read 18th amendment, even a member can vote against his/her party except in election of PM and on budget... but alas, in pakistan assembly means just to worship graves or worship some animals,,, or worship someone who is not even a pakistani citizen! grow up... if everything goes by party policy then there should be no parliament... just heads of the parties can decide whatever they want..why is there any voting then? why is there voting for senate election when everybody knows how many MPs a particular party have? but how would you know... you just collect ur pay-per-comment cheque every week...carry on... bullet trains mubarak ho :)
There is a huge difference between Party Policy and the actions of a new MNA. Pakistanis are not used to how real democracy works. This means taking the good with the bad. No where in the world does it happen that a leader e,g, Nawaz Sharif or Zardari will give an order and every member of the party will bend over backwards to follow it.
I think IK should hold meeting with all PTI MNA'S & MPA'S and tell them clearly don't talk rubbish. They should use their brains ( Which I doubt they have) before they speak. They must speak sensibly, These remarks are very disturbing.
Stop the PTI bashing, please
Stop Advocating Murder, PLEASE !
http://www.insaf.pk/Media/Videos/tabid/62/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/5413/Amir-Mughal-speaking-at-rally-on-defending-blasphemy-law-Dec-31-2010.aspx
This comes across as a poor half hearted attempt to justify a wrong. Firstly when a member from a particular party in the assembly make a statement, he is speaking as a party representative and not as an individual. To think otherwise is only to fool yourself. Secondly, even before the elections Imran Khan had managed, rightly or wrongly, to acquire the moniker of ' Taliban Khan ' and the baggage that went with it. So when a party member deliberately makes a provocative statement, it is taken in the spirit in which it was made. Denying it now is only adding insult to injury.
When a statement is made in an assembly by a party member, it cannot be passed as a personal opinion. It would be a different thing if the statement was made at a domestic get together or among friends.
Similarly when Arif Alvi is on a talk show as PTI representative and he says that it is okay to shut down co-ed schools if TTP demands that, then that cannot be considered a personal opinion, it counts as party policy.
If as you say people in 'naya Pakistan' would be more interested in holding their MPAs accountable, why then do you have a problem that PTI is being held accountable for their bloopers?
Very well written! Stop pti bashing you pseudo liberals! Arif alvi cleared his stance, go check his statement!
Please read this link where Imran had condemned Taseer's brutal murder:
Imran Khan slams hero's welcome for Qadri Jan 10, 2011
http://tribune.com.pk/story/101277/imran-khan-links-blasphemy-laws-to-war-on-terror/but%20since%20he%20did%20not,%20he%20should%20be%20treated%20like%20any%20other%20murderer./
“Extremism and radicalism have penetrated our society deeply,” he said, adding that it is especially harmful for youths.
While talking to The Express Tribune via phone, he said our society has become polarised. It is highly condemnable that everyone fulfills their wishes as they see fit, he said. “Elements like Qadri are under the impression that Islam is under threat and act accordingly,” he added.
“Salmaan Taseer never demanded that the blasphemy laws be repealed; rather he spoke against their misuse. He was gunned down because of the misperception that he is anti-Islamic and anti-blasphemy laws,” Imran Khan said
In democracy, everybody has the freedom to speak. In fact, during the election camaign, a PTI worker had approached Ahmadis for fund-raising. It doesnt mean that Imran Khan and PTI had given that worker permission to raise funds from Ahmadis.
PTI has issued a statement clarifying its policy regarding Qadri on its website:
http://www.insaf.pk/News/tabid/60/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/16470/Mujahid-approach-for-Mumtaz-Qadri-does-not-reflect-PTI-policy.aspx
I completely agree with Mani. If this would have come from IK or a senior leader of the party, then it would have been a different story. It happens all the time in US and UK that party members differ from the party policies on different issues. Pakistan has no democracy in political parties, hence people are afraid to express their opinions about things....if they do, they will be replaced by chachay mamay of the leader.
Sure, now we all should wait a retraction forced by IK himself personally in a nationally televised press conference akin to Hashmi episode, right Khawaja sahab!
So next time Rana Sanullah or Rehman Malik says something stupid, and their parties distance themselves from these statements, will that be party policy or individual opinion?
Thank you for declaring that people of KP are in good hands, that should be good enough then.
This poorly argued piece should not have made it to the opinion section. It appears to be an attempt at damage control aimed at diverting attention away from insensible statements and political faux pas of Pti parliamentarians. I am a reluctant Pti supporter, but that does not prevent me from being critical of some of their absurd opinions and policy stands.
Floor of the assembly is not a good place to voice out "personal opinions"wen ur representing a party ... If official spokerperson of the party doesn't condemn this statement, distance party from it or if this person is not made to resign, it will be considered as party statement
If others are doing corruption then Don't we have rights on doing corruption.
If we don't do corruption then we this is our lose .... an MNA of PPP said that on tv live program
Is it his personal opinion or party opinion???
nonsense. this is not the first time education has been made a priority. musharrafs government did it and naya pakistan started then as people became more involved through media and a free press and tv channel proliferation.
Dear ET,
When you move a blog to opinion section, please also move corresponding comments.
If this is the level of party discipline that any party MNA can speak anything he wants to then God may have mercy on the PTI!
I thought there is a thing called "party policy". Can Imran Khan keep such people in his party's ranks is the question to ask
