Mindy Kaling is speaking out about the online reaction to her appearance on Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.

The Sex Lives of College Girls creator, 45, addressed the controversy on The View after social media dissected a moment where Markle corrected her about her last name.

“I noticed that whenever I do something related to Meghan, it becomes like… big news,” Kaling said, referencing the online scrutiny of their conversation. She explained that the moment, where Markle clarified that she now goes by “Sussex” instead of “Markle,” was exaggerated by social media. “They push in on my face on TikTok and act like I had a reaction, but I honestly didn’t even remember.”

Despite the online chatter, Kaling had nothing but praise for Markle and her show. “I loved my time with Meghan,” she said, adding, “Let her promote her show—I’m here to talk about Running Point!”

Co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar chimed in on the discussion, noting that Markle “triggers people” and that “people love to hate her.” Sunny Hostin, however, praised the Netflix series as “beautifully made and aspirational.”

Markle recently revealed on With Love, Meghan that she stopped using her maiden name in favor of “Sussex” to match her children’s surname.
