Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday announced an increase in the minimum wage to Rs10,000 from Rs8,000 and the removal of additional tax burden on those earning Rs2.5 million yearly.
Wrapping up budget debate in Senate and announcing relief measures in light of recommendations made by Senate's Finance Committee, the minister said this year the provinces decided to increase minimum wage to Rs10,000.
The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) monthly allocation was increased from Rs1,000 to Rs1,200.
The minister while emphasizing that the current economic situation, energy challenges and terrorism were priorities for the government called upon parliamentarians to guide the officials in countering them.
The finance minister also announced that there will be no additional burden on those earning Rs2.5 million per year.
