Investment: Japan eager to invest in power sector, says envoy

Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Hiroshi Oe called on Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif here on Wednesday to discuss investment opportunities in the power sector in Pakistan, along with various matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations.


Welcoming the ambassador, the minister said that the government of Pakistan was fully committed to providing basic facilities to the people and resolve the energy crisis. He said that the foreign investment in coal and hydel power generation will help to meet the country’s future requirements and offered to invest in generation and distribution.

Khawaja Asif said that the energy sector is being made attractive for investors, adding that steps are being taken to reduce generation costs and to decrease load-shedding.

The Japanese Ambassador assured full support of the government of Japan in the fulfilment of the government’s development agenda particularly in the power sector and said that Japanese investors are also keen for more investment.
