SHC seeks details of earnings through political ads

The Sindh High Court (SHC) summoned on Monday Karachi Municipal Corporation’s administrator to explain why he was not following the court’s repeated directions to submit details about the money his organisation collected from advertisements during election campaigns.
Headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh, the bench heard two identical petitions on the issue of KMC’s employees not being paid their salaries. It issued on April 30 an order seeking details about the money KMC collected from advertisements during the elections.
KMC workers’ Sajjan Union had gone to the court, complaining that about 50,000 employees and pensioners were facing great difficulties because the corporation hadn’t been paying them for months.
On Monday, KMC’s lawyer, Wasif Riaz, once again asked for some time to comply with the order the court passed on April 30. The moment funds are provided, money will be disbursed amongst KMC’s employees and pensioners, he assured the court.
“Be that as it may, let a notice be issued to KMC’s administrator for July 22 to appear in person and explain,” ordered the judges.
