Punjab budget: Funds for Information and Culture sector slashed by 47 per cent

LAHORE:
The Punjab government has allocated 106 millions for the information and culture sector in the fiscal budget for 2013-14 which is 47 percent less than the allocated amount for the fiscal year 2012-13 (200 Millions).

The budget was presented by the provincial Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shua-Ur-Rehman here in Lahore at the Punjab Assembly on Monday. The allocated amount consists of 50.999 millions from the ongoing schemes and 55.001 for the new schemes in the information and culture sector.


The objectives set by the Punjab government in the fiscal budget 2013-14 for the information and culture sector includes the expansion of existing network of Arts Council and museums in Punjab, Conservation and up-gradation of crafts, preservation and restoration of art work, protect and conserve the cultural heritage of Punjab.

The Government is planning to implement these plans by constructing auditoriums and art councils at Sargodha, renovating and up-gradating the Lahore Museum Building, up-gradating the facilities at Lahore Art Council Mall Road Complex and Cultural Complex and by the development of the cultural heritage in the Punjab.
