KARACHI:
Three security personnel of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) were wounded in a low-intensity explosion that took place along the wall of PAF Faisal Base near Karsaz on Sharah-e-Faisal on Sunday evening.

Extra contingents of law enforcers including Rangers and police cordoned off the site immediately after the blast. PAF officials also reached and inspected the blast site.

Bomb disposal squad (BDS) was dispatched to the site, but they said that the nature of the blast had not yet been determined. While quoting the initial findings, the BDS experts added that the explosion was carried out with a locally manufactured cracker.

According to the Sharah-e-Faisal SHO Arshad Janjua, the initial investigation suggested that culprits on a motorcycle threw the cracker near the main gate of the base, injuring three PAF personnel who were on guard duty.

PAF’s spokesperson remained busy in gathering details about the incident when approached for comments.

After the PNS Mehran base attack in May 2011, this was the second such attack on Faisal Base. On February 5, 2013, unidentified assailants hurled two crackers in front of the Sharah-e-Faisal Air Base Flyover, injuring a pedestrian.
